HW for Week 5, What Is Math. Sharing your dreams

This week HW is to write a blog entry about your dreams. We are dream weavers and one way to see life is as a battle field or just a field where you grow veggies (pick the metaphor that speaks to you, or make your own). In any case it is a field where you are sawing your dreams or winning the battles and manifesting them in the physical world which is not as dense as it may seems. Let us then share our dreams in this blog. It will help all of us. You can also add collective dreams for humanity and the universe as well.

My dream..

I only have one real dream, that is to live my life to the fullest. To seize each day and suck the morrow out of life. I have many goals, such as write a novel, or start my own company one day, and play the piano, but my true dream is to live each day to the fullest. Otherwise, why live life?

1. Live in South America

2. Be confident in myself--in all modes of expression.

3. Read the majority of the books on my growing list of "Books to Read"

4. Be able to carry on conversations in Spanish (allowing some room for funny translation mishaps and pronunciation errors)

5. Commit to reading the news every day from a variety of news sources (BBC, Al Jazeera), no matter how upsetting it may be

6. Not let myself become pessimistic about "world issues" and instead seek to change the problem, even if it's on the most microcosmic level of daily recycling

7. See real progress be made towards lessening tensions in some of the most troubled regions (Israel/Palestine, Iraq/Iran, Brazil's favelas, the list goes on)

8. See socialism beneficially function on a grand scale--or develop another system that equalizes the drastic inequalities among people

9. Stop searching for tumult in my life and find a way to be content--but never be completely blissful if this would stop me from perpetually wanting to learn and create more in my life

10. Learn something every day. Maybe even teach someone something every day.

View every person with the same compassion and amity I view my mother with.

Continue my vegetarianism interminably, and spread ethics and compassion to others.

Re-attempt veganism.

Make it a habit to meditate every day, not sporadically.

Read every book I haven't already read, and re-read all of my favorites.

Travel the world.

Overcome my anxieties and depression.

Find my true self.

Do something to be remembered for.

I am going to write a book, but first I have to gather the material I need to write the book I want. To do this I will need to travel - to cross oceans and mountains and plains I have never even heard of. I will need to have conversations. I think that self-discovery is only partially within the self, that interactions with others both dictate and form who each person is. So I will talk and mostly listen, learn. I will need to learn a lot. I want to learn so I can teach, one day, and through the small things I learn and teach I want to become a catalyst for social and environmental change that will reverberate all over the world. I will need to walk in the proverbial shoes of another so that I can truly understand what inequalities are. I will need to sacrifice, which also means that I will need to know what it means to truly love. And I want to understand happiness and be wholly content for as much of my life as I can be through all of my journeys, so that when I start writing I will not have regret or jealousy or hate clogging my mind. So that I can write and live without fear.

To learn to dance with the paradoxes, contradictions and repeating patterns in my life and in the world.

For example, I want to question my desire to travel. What did I feel the need to run away from Sri Lanka toward America, and why do I now need to run away from America back to Sri Lanka? How is that connected to power currents in the world? What lack to do I have that I'm expecting people of other cultures to fill inside me? Can I pause in my tracks and stay with my own lack and learn from that void?

I wish to listen better to the clamour of voices inside and outside.

I wish to form a better relationship the unknown, unsteady, unsafe spaces in life and in writing and slow myself down when I want to run, skirts flying away from the unknown. And at the same time, as I develop awe for the unknown, I want to learn to exist in spaces that have structure, that don't immediately embrace the lack of structure (like college).
