there are deer that eat the crabapples off my lawn and sometimes sleep there overnight. there are two does and one fawn. Sometimes I will sit on my porch, just a few feet away and they pay me no attention whatsoever. so one day I am talking on my phone in my yard and keeping an eye on the deer. i tell my friend i'll drive over to his place and i go in to get my keys. when i come out the deer have drifted out of my yard and i don't see them. I get in my car and start to drive slowly along coddington. then i see them, and they've moved over the neighbor's driveway where there are green apples all over the ground and they are eating them. I think the're intrigueing so i stop in the road and look at them for a second. this doe raises her head, with this huge green apple in her mouth. she looks straight at me with this sort of amazed expression like she's never seen something like me before, and like i am an alien. then the apple drops out of her mouth. she keeps staring at me. i keep staring at her. (i'm trying not to laugh so she doesn't feel embarassed of course). we were totally awed by each other for a moment.
Lately I meet many deer also. I have a feeling that they are much more sensitive to vibration, to feelings than humans are. I cannot explain why but I feel that way. Sometimes when I walk and sing quietly to myself they look at me with fascination. Deer behave differently from other animals.
